High School Faith Formation

While the current situation with Covid-19 seems to have caused a halt in our typical programing, it is providing us with unique opportunities to creatively evangelize and form our young church. This year we be running our class curriculum through Google Classrrom and Zoom. Our team has been hard at work planning & preparing the best experience possible for you & your family. We are very excited and eager to dive into this year with you!

What will Faith Formation look like?

We will be using Zoom to meet for faith formation nights. Each night will consist of gathering virtually together, learning about our faith, small group work, and pray together as a youth ministry.

Each small group will be led by an adult facilitator and one or two JR facilitators (high school students), Small groups are the foundation of our sacrament preparation as it helps teens explore our faith in a small faith community where they can ask questions, have their questions answered, discuss life, grow in their faith, and seek support for the trials and joy of life together.

How are we supporting families during the "new normal"?

Our faith teaches that the FAMILY is a child's first church, so the Sacramental Preparation that Faith Formation is offering takes the responsibility of assisting you in preparing your children to live the faith of this community. This calls us to live a life that professes the Lord's presence and salvation in the world. As we pledge to be faithful to our commitment to assist you in raising and forming your children in the Catholic faith, we ask you to be faithful to the following:

  • To participate in Mass on Sundays (or Saturday evenings) with your children
  • To participate in Mass on Holy Days of Obligation with your children
  • To pray with and for your children and model prayer to them
  • To provide opportunities to study Scripture and the Tradition of our faith
  • To teach your children what it means to live a virtuous life, what sin and temptation are, and how to avoid sin
  • To provide your child with opportunities to frequent the Sacrament of Reconciliation following their First Reconciliation
  • To model the Christian life of seeking holiness, depending on grace, offering God genuine repentance for sins, practicing active charity, avoiding actions that give scandal, and striving to live justly before God and in society
  • To seek out and introduce your children to age-appropriate resources that foster the life of faith
  • To bring your children to all Sacramental Preparation sessions scheduled by coordinator

We will be using Google classroom to post family faith activities, family prayer activities, and family catechesis. These family activities will include videos, reflections, and much more! Families are expected to complete the activity together weekly and submit reflections from both the parents and teens (please look at the calendar for due dates).

Parents are also invited to join our monthly parent meetings where parents will have the opportunity to form a small faith community with other parents! These small groups will be a time where parents can come and pray, discuss life, grow in their faith, and seek support for the trials and joy of life together. These parent meetings are optional but for each one attended their teen will receive 2 hours of service. (dates for parent meetings coming soon!)

What will Youth Group look like?

We will be using Zoom to meet for youth nights. Each night will consist of gathering virtually together, learning about our faith, small group work, and pray together as a youth ministry. Teens enrolled in our Confirmation program MUST attend at least 9 youth nights.

Youth Nights are not the same as class. In these youth nights we will be discussing social teaching of the Catholic Church, modern issues and how the church responds, as well as having game nights and movie nights. All high school students are invited to attend these nights (even those who have been confirmed already)

NOTE: In-person faith experiences, such as praise & worship nights, adoration, youth nights, etc., will be offered throughout the year outside of the parish. These activities will be optional to attend, however if teens attend they will receive 2 hours of service and count as one youth group.
