Music Ministry
"God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises."

Sacred text united to song is an essential and necessary part of the liturgy. Good Shepherd  has different musical ensembles, allowing opportunities for musicians with varied backgrounds, training and experience to serve the liturgical assembly by leading sacred song.  If you are interested in participating in music ministry, please contact John Gaffney, Director of Liturgy and Music, who will help place you in a group that best suites your musical background.

Cantor
The cantor sings the verses of the entrance chant, psalm and communion chant and encourages the assembly’s singing of antiphons, responses, acclamations and hymns.  A background in voice and the ability to read music is required for this ministry.

Jubilate Choir
The Jubilate Choir is a four-part SATB choir that ministers at the 8:30 liturgy on Sunday and all other major parish liturgies, such as Mass at Midnight and the Easter Triduum. This choir sings a wide variety of liturgical music from the Church's treasury of sacred music, including chant and polyphony.  Musical experience and the ability to read music is helpful for members of this ensemble. A meeting with the music director is required before joining this choir.

Contemporary CHoir
The contemporary choir consists of singers and instrumentalists which minister at the 10:30 and 12:15 Sunday liturgies. Those with less musical experience are welcome to join this group.

Schola Cantorum
The Schola Cantorum is a vocal ensemble made up of professional singers. This group sings a variety of more challenging choral repertoire, polyphony and chant at liturgies throughout the year. Advanced musical training and sight-reading skills are required for this ensemble. An audition with the music director is required to join this group.

Spanish Choir
The Spanish choir ministers at the 7:00 p.m. Spanish Sunday evening liturgy.

Vietnamese Choir
The Vietnamese choir ministers at the 7:00 p.m. Vietnamese Saturday evening liturgy.
