Altar servers assist the priest and deacon by ensuring that all items needed for the celebration are available at the appropriate moments.  They are responsible for the cross, the candles, the incense and the censer. They hold the book for the celebrant at the chair and assist him during the preparation of the gifts.   They serve the liturgical assembly by enhancing the quality of the celebration for all present.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at the liturgy.  In this proclamation of the Word, the story of salvation is made known and the baptized community is instructed on how to be Christ-like.  The Word of God becomes alive when the community hears and responds to it.  Lectors serve the liturgical assembly by allowing all to clearly hear God’s word.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest and deacon in distributing the body and blood of Christ to the community.  They bring Eucharist to the sick and homebound.  They serve the liturgical assembly by helping all receive the sacrament of Eucharist, even those who cannot be physically present. 

Sacristans prepare the church and sanctuary for the liturgy.  They care for the sacred vessels, prepare the bread and wine, prepare incense and ensure that the church is secure.  They serve the liturgical assembly be keeping the “house of the Lord” in order and ready for the celebration of the sacraments.

Ministers of hospitality welcome and seat those who gather for the liturgy and help facilitate the collection.  They serve the liturgical assembly by welcoming the presence of Christ in each baptized person, allowing all to enter into full, active and conscious participation in the liturgy.
