Fall is Back!

Fall Is Back!

September 23, 2021

We have a new season upon us. September 22nd is the first official day of the Fall Season. I know what you might be thinking – Starbucks started the Fall Season August 24th when it brought back the amazing classic drink... the Pumpkin Spice Latte. However, that was just a prelude to the actual season of Fall.

It is time to take out your fall clothes and prepare for some hopefully chilly nights... finally!!! But it also to begin to prepare for the new liturgical calendar starting in about 2 months. This brief article will give you some ideas on how to prepare to close out the current liturgical calendar and begin Advent on the right foot.

Every season has a reason to be celebrated whether it is spiritual or not. Every season brings a special joy into our lives. San Diego offers many activities to do in the Fall. You can take a trip to Julian and go apple picking, you go to the many Pumpkin Patches around San Diego and have some fun with friends and family, you can go to Haunted Trails, pumpkin carve with friends and family, etc.

In terms of our faith there is plenty to do as well. Feasts of amazing saints are coming up; Sept 23rd: St Padre Pio, Sept 27th: St. Vincent de Paul, Sept 28th: St. Lorenzo Ruiz, Sept 29th: The Feast of the Archangels, Oct. 1st: St. Therese of Lisieux, Oct 4th: St. Francis of Assisi, Oct. 15th: St Teresa of Avila, Nov 1st All Saints Day, just to name a few. Mark your calendar with the fall feasts and celebrate them!

I invite you to read the stories of the saints we will be celebrating from now until November 28th around a bonfire and journey with them into the new liturgical year. Roast some smores and read the Gospel of Mark to prepare to enter into Cycle C in which we will read the Gospel of Luke. Go to daily mass once a week if possible. Make it your fall goal to prepare for Advent and anticipate the coming of the Lord NOW.
